Radish Red

At first it seems impossible
Growing something from seed
I had no idea just how much this little box of dirt would provide
Now, as some of our garden is ready for harvesting
I can’t get over it
Tiny little seeds we covered with thin layers of soil seven weeks ago
Are now leaves and roots I can hold in my hands
And I wonder
Could I learn to be as patient with myself?
Could I find as much delight in my own rainy days
Knowing that they are just as important as the sunny ones?

The garden says,
You have your own timing
Show up every day to see what needs tending
And then trust the process
You might not notice or see a difference day to day
But have faith that the work is happening

Because one day little sprouts of green will awaken
And days from then you will wash away the dirt and finally taste it
The stunning disbelief in what
You managed to grow
One day at a time
